Do you know yourself? Do you like who you are now? If you find that the answer is no, you must learn to look into yourself. You must stop neglecting yourself, and get to know yourself better. This may be the hardest thing you ever do, but perhaps the most rewarding, too. Search honestly into the recesses of your heart and soul. Remember that you are a unique and wonderful individual, a mystery to be explored. Embrace the journey. There is no one else quite like you. Learn to love yourself. A powerful way to begin learning who you really are is to create a written inventory of your life, including your dreams and goals to become the best version of you.

We all have dreams. They are free, imaginary, and something something to look forward to. But dreams must not be merely conceived of and mentioned on occasion. Dreams must be pursued. While dreams may inspire you, goals can change your life, turning your dreams into reality by producing tangible results. Think of goals as dreams you are acting on. Goals come at a price, have deadlines, are based on reality, and require hard work to achieve them.

It is important to have goals to strive for. Set goals in different aspects of your life, and always aim high. Set realistic expectations about your goals and organize a plan to complete them in a timely manner. Then, focus on reaching those goals. Consider the enjoyment of life your primary goal; and come to the realization that fulfilling your duties and running after your goals leads to lasting happiness.

I say again: following dreams and pursuing your goals do not come without a price. In general, a goal is a ambition to achieve a specific outcome within a given period of time. Succeeding in this requires determination, time, effort, diligence, and sometimes financial investment. In pursuing well-laid goals, you will inevitably increase your skills and abilities, which in turn may change your life forever. Conversely, poorly conceived objectives may deplete your resources and leave you feeling quite defeated. Therefore it is essential to set your designs on realistic achievements, the realization of which may bring you one step closer to your loftiest dreams.

In addition to good planning, preparedness to overcome adversity and unseen impediments is also requisite. You must find the flexibility to surmount challenging situations and delays in the timely completion of your plans. You must also be willing to ask for help when it is necessary.

Above all, resolve and endurance are vital to the fulfillment of your goals. You will undoubtedly be surprised by what you can achieve when you focus your mind, heart, and soul in pursuit of your goals. Therein lies true contentment and happiness. As Helen Keller put it, “Many persons have a wrong idea of what constitutes true happiness. It is not attained through self-gratification, but through fidelity to a worthy purpose.”

“The tragedy of life does not lie in not reaching your goal. The tragedy lies in having no goal to reach.”
